Acquisitions boost Roper's imaging revenue

17 Jun 2002

Roper Instruments' Analytical Instrumentation division reported a strong first quarter of 2000 following the recent acquisitions of several imaging and instrument businesses.

In November 1999, Roper acquired the San Diego-based MASD division of the Eastman Kodak Company and Redlake Imaging Corp, of Morgan Hill, CA. Earlier in the year the company bought the instrument division of Varlen Corporation, as well as Photometrics, of Tucson, AZ and Acton Research, of Acton, MA.

Roper Industries reported a 22% increase in its first quarter 2000 earnings to USD 0.31 per share (diluted), from the USD 0.26 achieved in the first quarter of 1999. The Analytical Instrumentation segment's net sales for the first quarter increased by 85% over the prior-year period to USD 51 million.

Roper Industries hopes to continue this trend and has announced that it has between USD 100 million and USD 110 million to invest in acquisitions over in 2000, in addition to the USD 75 million already invested or announced this year.

  • The company has restructured its Roper Scientific MASD (MASD) unit, acquired from Eastman Kodak last year, and has reduced its staffing levels, by 36, to just over 100 employees. The restructuring combined the sales forces and distribution networks of MASD and Redlake Imaging.
