The Optical sciences center at the University of Arizona and three leading aerospace firms have formed a consotrtium with $12.3 million in initial funding over the next four years. the consortium will develop and demonstrate new, improved optics for sensor systems on board modern aircraft and missiles.
The newly-created Conformal Optical Technology Consortium includes Hughes Electro-Optical Systems (El Segundo CA), Hughes Missile Systems (Tucson AZ) and McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co. (St. Louis MO). The consortium is funded by DARPA. Other companies involved in the project include Optical Research Associates (Pasadena CA) and Morton International (Woburn MA).
