In figure 1 (a) objects are illuminated with light, which scatters in different directions making it necessary to focus the light with an objective in a microscope. If the objects are at the inner perimeter of the hyperlens the incident light is also scattered. However, because of the anisotropic permittivity every partial wave of the light propagates into the same direction radially through the hyperlens (the wall of the tube). This is illustrated in figure 1 (b). The objects appear to be at the outer perimeter but larger and separated by greater distance. |
