Tapered PCF
The specially designed dispersion-engineered PCF consists of a 100 m long section with a constant dispersion followed by a 100 m long section with decreasing ZDW. In the first section, the outer diameter is 125 microns. In the section section, the outer diameter of the fibre is reduced to 80 microns. The researchers fabricate their PCF using the stack and draw technique. For the PCF reported in the Optics Letters paper, the central core was made from a Ge/F co-doped perform made at the team's facility by the MCVD process. This perform was then inserted into a stack of silica capillaries to make the PCF preform. (Image credit: Arnaud Mussot)
