Originally known as "Quintessence Photonics Corporation", QPC Lasers was co-founded by technology pioneer Jeffery Ungar and former investment banker George Lintz. Using MOCVD equipment at its Sylmar, California, wafer fab, the company developed novel high-power surface-emitting diode lasers that feature 45-degree mirrors etched into the semiconductor's epitaxial structure. The patented method allows two-dimensional arrays of diodes to be packed into a single chip, and was the basis of the company's initial funding. Credit: QPC lasers. |
