A team of researchers from the National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan, Republic of China has fabricated a Fresnel microlens onto the sapphire substrate of a blue LED.

The researchers say that adding a Fresnel microlens enhances the optical power of the LED by around 1.68 times at an injection current of 20 mA.
