Harvard's optical set-up
The metal cannister in the foreground is the "source" ensemble the physicists use to generate the single photons. The one in the background is the "target" ensemble in which they store them. The vapour cells themselves are much smaller glass cells inside the metal cannisters. The metal is three layers of magnetic shielding to ensure the magnetic field is zero inside (image and text: M Eisaman)
