How the MEMS infrared sensor works: each pixel contains a miniature bimetal cantilever and incident infrared light heats the cantilever causing it to bend, changing its capacitance. This capacitance change is converted into an electrical signal that is proportional to the amount of absorbed IR light. Each microcantilever is just 50µm long and Sarcon claims that the technology is much more sensitive than existing uncooled sensors. |
