Next-generation Optical Profilers ideal for non-contact surface Metrology for demanding applications

22 Feb 2007

Woodbury, NY, February 14, 2006 -- Veeco Instruments Inc., (Nasdaq: VECO), a leading supplier of instrumentation to the nanoscience community, today announced the release of the Wyko® NT9300™ and NT9800™ Optical Profilers.

The new NT optical profilers are ideal for non-contact surface metrology in a wide range of demanding industrial, research, and production applications including automotive, aerospace, semiconductor, MEMS, and biomedical devices. After successful demonstrations at the University of Arizona, the new NT Optical Profilers are being shown for the first time on November 28 at the Materials Research Society’s Fall 2006 Conference, in Boston, Massachusetts. “Veeco’s new NT9800 is a state-of-the-art optical profiler that is now used extensively by both students and researchers in our facility,” says Stanley Pau, Associate Professor of Optical Sciences, University of Arizona’s College of Optical Studies. “We are very happy with the performance of the tool, which has become an integral part of our analytical capabilities and research.” John Wissinger, Vice President of Veeco’s Optical/Industrial business, commented, “Our new profilers deliver the power, resolution and accuracy demanded by our most discriminating customers, and early adopters have been pleased with the performance achieved on the instruments. The design innovations in these instruments greatly reduce the number of moving parts, which increases uptime and improves long-term cost of ownership.” The ninth-generation NT9300 and NT9800 profilers combine an innovative illumination system, and an industry proven platform to measure topographies from 0.1-nanometer to 10-millimeters to significantly extend non-contact surface measurement capabilities for materials analysis, quality assurance, and the process development and monitoring cycle. A novel harmonic drive scan mechanism and Veeco’s exclusive Laser Reference signal for Z position feedback provide unparalleled performance, scan accuracy and resolution. About Veeco Veeco Instruments Inc. provides solutions for nanoscale applications in the worldwide, data storage, HBLED/ wireless, semiconductor and scientific research markets.
