Labsphere Appoints New Executives

Date Announced: 07 Sep 2011

Jack Kelly joins company as President; Peter Weitzman promoted to Senior Vice President as Kevin Chittim moves to Ocean Optics.

North Sutton, New Hampshire (September 7, 2011) – Light metrology equipment maker Labsphere (a subsidiary of Halma p.l.c.) has made two senior executive appointments, following the move of company President Kevin Chittim to sister company Ocean Optics. Jack Kelly has joined the company to replace Chittim as President and Vice President of Sales Peter Weitzman Ph.D. has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Labsphere.

Kelly comes to Labsphere from another Halma company, Fiberguide, where he has served as President since 2009. During his time with the manufacturer of high optical transmission fibers, OEM assemblies and arrays, he successfully transitioned the company, a new acquisition at the time, into a strong performer as part of Halma’s Photonics division.

Prior to joining Fiberguide, Kelly held President positions with Emerson Electric, Bristol Babcock, Axsys Technologies and PMT. Kelly holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, Pa.) and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Cornell University (Ithaca, N.Y.).

“Jack brings significant international experience in operations and business strategy to Labsphere at a time when the photonics marketplace is rapidly changing,” says Robert Randelman, Divisional Chief Executive for Halma p.l.c. “Jack’s talents will enable him to expand Labsphere’s global market reach, both as a preferred supplier and as the world-respected expert in light metrology solutions.”

Weitzman has led Labsphere’s sales and marketing since 2008, guiding the company’s growth by developing applications engineering aligned with customer needs. Prior to that, he held senior positions with DEM Solutions and Concept NREC. Weitzman earned a doctoral degree in non-linear optics from Dartmouth College (Hanover, N.H.), a Master of Science degree electrical engineering from the University of Colorado and a Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University (Medford, Mass.).
