OCTLIGHT making first appearance at Photonics West releasing samples of OCT Swept Source for biometry

Date Announced: 22 Jan 2019

OCTLIGHT want to become the preferred and trusted partner of OCT Swept Source technology that uses fast wavelength sweeping lasers to provide 3-D imaging in real time of sub-surface tissue layers. OCTLIGHT is commercializing VCSEL technology enables 3D imaging in real time with high spectral purity for OCT. The aim is to bring to Ophthalmic Medical Technology companies a OCT Swept Source that will make full 3D OCT imaging more accessible to improve early diagnosis of eye diseases. Long term, our vision is that this will improve the sight and life quality for millions of people.

OCT Swept Source product Caliper targeting biometry in connection with cataract surgery

Following the successful establishment of its OCT Swept Source platform technology OCTLIGHT ApS will release its first product Caliper at the SPIE Photonics West 2019 Exhibition at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, US, February 5th. Photonics West is the world's largest photonics technologies event and the BIOS conference one of the most important biomedical conferences especially strong on Optical Coherence Tomography. This is exactly the target application for the new product being introduced at the exhibition by OCTLIGHT. Caliper is an OCT swept source with application in 3D measurements of the eye geometry – so-called biometry – which finds its use in the treatment of cataract.

OEM samples will be available 2019 to meet demand for VCSEL based OCT Swept Source

The release of the Caliper product follows years of testing prototypes with potential customers within Ophthalmology. OCTLIGHT is currently ramping up its in-house VCSEL production to meet the anticipated volumes and scaling the organization accordingly. OCTLIGHT draws on strong compentencies and networks within the VCSEL community with on focus on establishing a production meeting the strict quality requirements in Ophthalmic OCT.

There is currently a rapidly increasing interest in VCSELs for 3D imaging due to their mass manufacturability and unique properties of truly single-mode lasing, enabling fast and long coherence length wavelength sweep. This is fueling the current maturation of the wavelength tunable VCSEL market.

OCTLIGHT will make OEM samples available for customer testing and evaluation during 2019 in advance of planned production ramp-up and building its quality assurance system. The OEM samples will be available as stand-alone units and with turn-key benchtop enclosure.
