Voting opens 9 July in SPIE 2018 Officers, Directors election

BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA - Voting in the 2018 election for Officers and Directors for SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, will open Monday 9 July and close 8 August. Qualified Society Members receive instructions via email on how to vote electronically. Results will be announced during the Annual General Meeting of the society on 28 August during SPIE Optics + Photonics in San Diego, California.

The 2018 slate includes:

Vice President – to serve as 2019 Vice President, 2020 President-Elect, and 2021 President:

Candidates David L. Andrews of Univ. of East Anglia, UK; and Din Ping Tsai of Academia Sinica, Taiwan.

Secretary/Treasurer – one-year term:

  • Jason Mulliner, Alluxa, USA.

Director – three-year term, 2019-2021; four candidates will be elected:

  • Julia Craven, Sandia National Labs, USA
  • Peter J. de Groot, Zygo Corp., USA
  • Marta C. de la Fuente, ASE Optics Europe, Spain
  • Michael T. Eismann, Air Force Research Lab., USA
  • Judy Ann Fennelly, Air Force Research Lab, USA
  • Sen Han, Univ. of Shanghai for Science and Technology, China
  • Jim J. McNally, Applied Technology Associates, USA.
  • Aydogan Ozcan, UCLA, USA

The SPIE Nominating Committee accepts recommendations on an ongoing basis for the election slate. Directors, who serve a three-year term, are expected to attend and participate in three board meetings each year. To make a recommendation or for more information, e-mail governance@spie.org, and include a paragraph stating why the person is qualified to serve.

A candidate for SPIE Officer or Director must be a member in good standing of SPIE and typically will have significant leadership experience with the Society (i.e., committee membership, chairing of conferences or committees, involvement in SPIE student activities, or a combination of these activities) or internationally recognized background in a technology area of significant interest to SPIE.

SPIE is the international society for optics and photonics, an educational not-for-profit organization founded in 1955 to advance light-based science, engineering, and technology. The Society serves nearly 264,000 constituents from approximately 166 countries, offering conferences and their published proceedings, continuing education, books, journals, and the SPIE Digital Library. In 2017, SPIE provided more than $4 million in support of education and outreach programs.
