Mayor Lovely Warren and Optics Industry Panel to Discuss Emerging Photonics Opportunities at Annual Meeting

Date Announced: 08 Sep 2015

Speakers will explore potential impact of AIM Photonics institute on Rochester community.

The funding, interest and technological promise of integrated photonics have the potential to transform our community. New York, and particularly the Rochester region, have long enjoyed a strategic regional advantage in optics, photonics and imaging (OPI). A nationally recognized panel will discuss how we can sustain and grow this advantage through innovation, competition and a well-trained workforce.

Guest speakers will include:

  • Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren
  • Alan Willner, professor of engineering at USC, president elect of the Optical Society of America and co-chair of the National Photonics Initiative
  • Steve Anderson, industry and market strategist for SPIE
  • Tom Hauskens, senior engineering and applications advisor for the Optical Society of America
  • Rob Clark, senior vice president for research and dean of the Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences, University of Rochester

“Rochester is the natural choice for the new American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics, and this meeting will help to marshal our combined innovation to maximize its impact,” said Tom Battley, executive director for New York Photonics.

The New York Photonics Annual Meeting will be held Thursday, Sept.17 at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. Tickets are available online. The Annual Meeting is sponsored by Harris Beach PLLC, RG&E, NYSEG, Optimax and others, though sponsorship opportunities are still available.
