Additional capacity initially dedicated for 40 Gbps products.
SUGAR LAND, Texas, Dec. 2, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Optoelectronics, Inc. (AAOI), a leading provider of fiber-optic access network products for the cable broadband, internet data center, and fiber-to-the-home markets, today announced the completion of the move to a new, larger factory in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
The new facility comprises over 268,000 square feet, including nearly triple the square footage of manufacturing space compared with the older factory. With the new facility, total unit production capacity will increase by more than 110% and most of this additional capacity will initially be dedicated for AOI's 40 Gbps products.
"We are pleased to have completed the build-out and move into our new factory on time and within budget," commented Dr. Thompson Lin, AOI's founder, president and CEO. "The move to the new facility went very smoothly and I'm proud of our team's hard work and thorough planning. The new facility significantly expands our capacity, including production capacity for 40 Gbps products and we believe will serve us well for many years into the future."
AOI's Taiwan facility is located in the Linkou District of New Taipei City and is the second largest of its three manufacturing locations, employing approximately 520 people. It is primarily engaged in the manufacture of optical transceivers, which are key optical components used in the fiber-optic networks that connect together switches, servers, and other network equipment within large data centers.
