Laser specialist Thorlabs integrates greenTEG’s laser power sensor technology

Date Announced: 15 Jul 2014

greenTEG AG from Switzerland, developer and producer of sensors for laser power and heat flux measurements, convinced Thorlabs with its gSKIN® Laser Power Sensor Technology. Photonics and Laser specialist Thorlabs Inc. (founded in 1989 and based in New Jersey) currently has twelve international branch offices and manufactures, amongst others, high-precision laser power measurement devices. Thorlabs has currently integrated greenTEG’s gSKIN® sensors in two of its products: the S401C High-Sensitivity Thermal Power Sensor and the PM 160T Handheld Power Meter. greenTEG’s gSKIN® sensors are based on thermopile technology and offer a high measurement resolution, even at low laser powers. They are especially suited for fast measurements of Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL, NIR to FIR). Further integrations of greenTEG’s technology into products of Thorlabs are in development.

As a vertically integrated manufacturer of photonics products, Thorlabs has been a leader since 1989 in the market of laser and optoelectronics research. Manfred Gonnert, product developer at the German subsidiary Thorlabs GmbH in Munich (Germany), emphasizes the benefits of the cooperation with Swiss based greenTEG AG: “The reaction time of less than a second, the high sensitivity and the low thickness of the sensors were the main reasons for our decision to integrate the technology of greenTEG.”

greenTEG’s gSKIN® sensors measure the power of wavelengths ranging from ultra violet to mid infrared (DUV-MIR) with constant sensitivity. They fit applications where photoelectric detectors are not sensitive enough (1800nm and more). The sensors are available in different sizes and are suited for the precise determination of the average power of pulsed as well as CW lasers. The sensors are highly linear in a broad power range and are available with NIST or PTB calibration.
