Intravascular imaging*
Ultrasonic intravascular imaging is used to determine the degree to which arteries are blocked by plaques, but the specific chemical nature of those plaques is thought to be critical in deciding whether or not the blockage will lead to a serious cardiac event such as a heart attack. Infraredx's dual-mode technology combines ultrasound with near-infrared spectroscopy to detail both the blockage and its chemical make-up. Image: Infraredx.
