A 3µm polystyrene bead is propelled along a fiber by light in fundamental mode (l) and higher order mode (r).
A 3µm polystyrene bead is propelled along a microfiber by light in the fundamental mode (a) and a higher order mode (b). The particle moved eight times faster under the higher order mode, which is why it is much farther along the fiber and appears longer because it is moving faster than the camera can capture.
