Gesture recognition
The Xbox Kinect games console, which works by gesture recognition rather than via a remote control, was a big hit at Christmas 2010, and Microsoft had sold around 8 million by the start of 2011. Gesture recognition relies on laser diodes and optical filters to interpret users' movements, and JDSU is a key supplier to the emerging market. Credit: Microsoft.
