ADC acquires IBSEN and Altitun

17 Jun 2002

Minneapolis-based supplier of network equipment, ADC Telecommunications, has bought Altinun, of Kista, Sweden for approximately USD 872 million. ADC has also announced the acquisition of IBSEN Micro Structures, of Copenhagen, Denmark for approximately USD 80 million.

Altinun was the first company to produce tuneable lasers commercially. These lasers are attractive for telecommunications as they give the network operator the flexibility to allocate wavelength dynamically depending on the customers' needs. Tuneable lasers will also allow signals to be routed, combined and separated by wavelength in next-generation optical networks.

IBSEN Micro Structures produces high-performance optical components and tools such as phase masks, fiber Bragg grating devices and the 'DWDM Switch Processor', a next-generation, integrated optics platform

ADC says that these latest acquisitions give the company the critical mass required to deliver integrated, multifunction optical components and modules for next-generation networks.
