CVI Melles Griot continues its spending spree with the acquisition of Coherent's infrared component business.
CVI Melles Griot has bought Coherent Imaging Optics (CIOL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Coherent that supplies infrared optical components for advanced thermal imaging and other electro-optic systems. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"This acquisition increases our infrared optics manufacturing capacity, brings us unique coating technologies, and further strengthens our European manufacturing presence," said Stuart Schoenmann, CEO of CVI Melles Griot.
According to Schoenmann, the acquisition will enable CVI Melles Griot to meet customer demand with local manufacturing for defense contracts, as well as providing new capabilities to manufacture infrared imaging optics and assemblies. It fits with the company's stated acquisition strategy of expanding its product line, increasing capabilities and addressing growing market opportunities.
"This unique combination brings together industry leaders in optical component manufacturing from the extreme ultraviolet to the infrared," continued Schoenmann. "It also substantially increases our European manufacturing presence to improve local customer service, rapid response, and faster times to market."
Robin Henderson, managing director for CIOL, will continue to head the new CVI Melles Griot division, and will report directly to Schoenmann. "We are excited to be joining the CVI Melles Griot family," he said. "We will be focusing on developing the site as CVI Melles Griot's Center of Excellence for infrared imaging optics fabrication and coatings."
