27 Oct 2025 Ball lenses are small-diameter optical glass beads used to enhance signal coupling between optical fibers, transmitters, and detectors, improving signal quality. They can also be applied in endoscopes, barcode scanners, as pre-processing materials for aspheric lenses, and in sensors.
Ball lenses have shorter focal lengths and higher magnification than ordinary convex lenses, and their focal lengths depend on the refractive index of the material itself. Due to the short back focal length of ball lenses, they can minimize the distance required from the ball lens to the optical fiber, making them primarily used in optical fiber applications.
United Light Technology offers ball lenses made of K9 optical glass and UV fused silica. UV fused silica ball lenses have a lower refractive index than K9 ball lenses, so lenses of the same size have longer focal lengths. United Light Technology provides uncoated ball lenses with K9 optical glass and UV fused silica substrates, and offers a variety of sizes and focal lengths for your selection. |
