Enhancing Near-Infrared Applications with G1682x

15 Aug 2025

Hamamatsu Photonics unveils the G1682x series, an advanced, non-cooled InGaAs linear image sensor specifically engineered for near-infrared applications. With its compact design and high-performance capabilities, the G1682x series is poised to transform the field of multichannel spectrophotometry.

This new range of sensors offers numerous advantages. One of its hallmark features is high sensitivity across the near-infrared range of 0.9 to 2.1 µm, made possible by the combination of an InGaAs photodiode array and a CMOS chip. The G1682x series allows users to optimize performance with selectable conversion efficiency settings, giving them the ability to choose between CE=16 nV/e- and CE=160 nV/e- via external voltage. This adaptability is crucial for meeting the diverse needs of industrial, R&D, and OEM applications.

The uncooled design of the G1682x series is a game-changer in its class. Unlike preceding long-wavelength models that necessitated TE cooling to reduce dark current, the G1682x maintains low dark current through zero bias operation. This means users can enjoy more accurate readings without the added complexity and cost of cooling systems. Operating at a modest drive voltage of just 3.3 V, the G1682x series also features pixel sizes of 50 µm × 250 µm for the G16823-128DB sensor, and 25 µm × 250 µm for the G16823/G16824/G16825-256DG, ensuring low power consumption.

The versatility of the G1682x series extends beyond its technical specifications. Designed with portability in mind, these sensors allow users to conduct analyses in various environments, making them ideal for quality control, process optimization, and extensive research applications. The capability to perform simultaneous analyses across multiple channels significantly enhances efficiency, allowing organizations to save time while maximizing data collection.

Hamamatsu Photonics emphasizes the importance of robust and cost-effective solutions for today’s spectroscopy needs. The G1682x series exemplifies this philosophy, positioning itself as an essential tool for various applications ranging from material inspection to real-time monitoring in manufacturing processes.

“We are proud to introduce the G1682x series, providing a robust solution for near-infrared applications,” states Luigi Ghezzi, Technical Marketing Engineer at Hamamatsu Photonics. The sensors are now available for purchase. For more information about this product and its applications, please visit the G1682x product page or contact Hamamatsu directly. The G1682x series stands ready to empower your analytical capabilities in the field of spectrophotometry.
