Best-in-class spectroscopy is just a grating away

03 Aug 2022

The grating used in a spectrometer design plays a defining role in its performance. It impacts sensitivity, signal to noise, and spectral response, and thus should be carefully matched to the application. Wasatch Photonics’ VPH transmission gratings for spectroscopy are unsurpassed for both standard and low light applications like Raman and fluorescence, outperforming surface relief gratings in efficiency by up to 40%. Advantages of VPH gratings like low scatter and ghosting characteristics reduce stray light to further maximize signal to noise, as does low polarization sensitivity. VPH gratings can be fabricated with broad bandwidths for UV-VIS-NIR spectroscopy and imaging, or very high line densities to maximize dispersion for high resolution spectroscopy.

Use of a VPH grating allows a more compact, stable optical spectrometer than would be possible using a conventional reflection grating, as designing a spectrometer in transmission allows better aberration correction and easier alignment. Furthermore, our proprietary process encapsulates the grating structure in a robust package, facilitating easy cleaning & handling during system build.

At Wasatch Photonics, we apply our multiple patented technologies to optimize for efficiency, bandwidth, dispersion, and low polarization sensitivity, as needed. We offer off-the-shelf and custom OEM gratings to enable your next spectrometer design, at wavelengths from 300-2500 nm, with line densities spanning 150-5500 lines/mm.

OEM Solutions

Our patented HD gratings offer an advantage you won’t find anywhere else - high efficiency and low polarization dependence over a broad wavelength range, from 300-2500 nm. As spectroscopists ourselves, we’re able to customize our VPH gratings to the needs of your specific application, and can even provide turnkey spectrometer solutions to speed your system design and time to market. We work with you from initial design to volume production to provide full OEM customization and support. Please contact us to discuss your unique needs today!
