Knight Optical’s Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) Lenses for the Oil and Gas Industry

15 Jul 2021

As a trusted supplier to the Oil & Gas industries, Knight Optical’s Stock and Custom-Made Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) Lenses are suitable for a range of applications. Uses within the Oil & Gas sectors include integration with detectors, spectrophotometers and spectrometers, to name but a few. What’s more, with additional CaF2 components offered, such as Windows, Prisms and Mirrors for gas detectors and gas analysers, Knight Optical is a go-to supplier for manufacturers operating within the Oil & Gas fields.

Our renowned reliability within these sectors doesn’t solely derive from our extensive portfolio of CaF2 optics, however. Our capacity to supply Custom-Made Optical Components also proves popular for engineers and R&D professionals working on high-spec projects within these industries. Our CaF2 Lenses, for example, are not only available from our wide-ranging portfolio of stock (including Planoconvex, Biconvex and Cylindrical shapes) but are also offered as Custom-Made Optics tailored to meet the precise requirements sought by your project. This made-to-measure service allows you to pick the dimensions, thicknesses (both edge and centre), tolerances, focal lengths and optical coatings (plus more) that are ideally suited to your end application.

For spectroscopy, CaF2 is superior to several alternative materials – for instance, N-BK7 (or equivalent) or Fused Quartz – due to a lack of OH absorption peaks. Furthermore, with CaF2’s low absorption and reflection – plus its high damage threshold – our Lenses can be used uncoated and are ideal for laser-based applications as well as thermal imaging systems, spectroscopy and high-energy neutron detection.

Typical specs:

Material: Calcium Fluoride (CaF2)
