Bristol Instruments Introduces Optical Spectrum Analyzer Software for its 428 Series Optical Wavelength Meter

16 Jun 2015

High-resolution spectral analysis with the reliable accuracy of a multi-wavelength meter

Bristol Instruments, Inc., a leader in WDM wavelength testing instrumentation, has introduced new Optical Spectrum Analyzer Software for its 428B Series Multi-Wavelength Meter. This software adds high-resolution spectral analysis to the capabilities of an instrument that already provides the most precise measurement of wavelength, power, and OSNR.

The 428 Series Multi-Wavelength Meter simultaneously determines wavelength, power, and OSNR of as many as 1000 optical channels. Wavelength is measured to an accuracy as high as ± 0.3 pm, measurement of power has an accuracy of ± 0.5 dB, and OSNR is calculated to greater than 40 dB. To provide an even more complete analysis, the 428 Optical Spectrum Analyzer Software generates and displays the spectrum of a WDM laser or WDM transmission signal. With a spectral resolution of better than 10 GHz, a narrow, sharp-edged spectral response is achieved resulting in the ability to easily discriminate between closely spaced WDM channels.

“The 428 Series Multi-Wavelength Meter has always provided the most precise information about a WDM signal,” said Dr. Brian Samoriski, President of Bristol Instruments. “With our new Optical Spectrum Analyzer Software, it now provides the most complete information available.”

About Bristol Instruments

Bristol Instruments designs, manufactures, and markets precision instruments based on its expertise in optical interferometry. Bristol’s flagship products accurately characterize the wavelength and spectral properties of lasers used by scientists and engineers at universities, government laboratories, and industrial laboratories. They are also used for the development and production testing of laser transmitters used in optical fiber communications. In addition, Bristol Instruments provides interferometer-based products to reliably measure critical physical dimensions of materials such as specialty plastic films, medical membranes, and ophthalmic products.
