Hellma Materials grows the world's largest Calcium Fluoride Crystal at 440 mm diameter

05 Jan 2012

Hellma Materials has recently grown the largest diameter Calcium Fluoride crystal in the world at their corporate manufacturing facility in Jena, Germany. These high-quality, 440 mm diameter CaF2 crystals will enable optical designers to create the next generation instruments for the large telescopes including the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT), Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and the European-Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).

The 440 mm CaF2 crystal will be presented on SPIE Photonics West 2012 in San Francisco.
