Laser beam expanders from Optical Surfaces Ltd. are designed to be easy to use and to provide accurate, unobstructed and achromatic expansion of any collimated input source.
Manufactured to better than lambda/10 surface accuracy, the off-axis design of OSL beam expanders produces no central obscuration and highly efficient transmission is obtained, unspoilt by spider diffraction patterns. Alignment aids are supplied with each beam expander to ensure correct beam pointing. The all-reflecting design of OSL beam expanders is achromatic and with aluminium coatings can operate from the UV to far IR without adjustment. Using zero expansion glass mirror substrates OSL beam expanders provide high operational stability.

For high power laser experiments that demand the highest reflectivity and high damage threshold, ultra-hard dielectric, protected silver and gold laser coatings are available. Where applications require operation over a wide temperature range athermalised beam expanders can be supplied. Specialist beam expanders requiring larger aperture (up to 400mm) or higher magnification (up to 100x) operation have been manufactured, tested and delivered to customers around the world. Custom beam expanders with a focusing capability for a given far field can be supplied to provide optimised performance in LIDAR applications. Optical Surfaces also offers an alternative beam expander design using two off-axis parabola with a common focus to provide optimised performance in Fizeau applications.
OSL beam expanders are housed in a convenient box assembly that offers provision for fixing to an optical table and enables transportation to different sites without the need for internal realignment.
