A complete Power line inspection tool

09 May 2006

Incorporating a UV sensitive camera for inspection, video documentation, and high-resolution digital imaging, the new Corona 350 from Polytech AB offers Power utilities a powerful inspection and documentation tool.

A complete Power line inspection tool Incorporating a UV sensitive camera for inspection, video documentation, and high-resolution digital imaging, the Corona 350 from Polytech AB (www.polytec.se) offers power utilities a powerful tool for detection of corona discharges, right-of-way documentation and inspection of mechanical components. The Corona effect on high voltage power lines is generated when the air surrounding an electrical connection is ionised due to a current leakage induced by a spark. The Corona effect is a particularly useful means of remotely identifying power line faults. Built around a state-of-the-art UV sensitive camera the aircraft mounted system offers robust inspection capabilities with complete solar radiation immunity, providing outstanding performance independent of power line loads and weather conditions. Equipped with solid-state gyros and four-axis stabilisation, the 14-inch gimbal mounted Corona 350 system offers easy tracking and data acquisition independent of aircraft movements. In addition to its corona detection feature, the Corona 350 also allows the operator to document structures and right-of-way features on high-quality digital videotape. Incorporating a high-resolution digital still camera with 14X zoom enables the Corona 350 to undertake close-up inspection of mechanical components and easy assessment of detected corona problems. Supplied as a kit installation of the system is both quick and simple. Constructed from lightweight high stiffness composite materials the Corona 350 is robust and does not impair extended mission endurance. Since 1988, Polytech AB has been focused on development and production of innovative camera systems for airborne applications. Today, Polytech AB offers a comprehensive range of proven products for airborne radiometric applications, ranging from power line inspection to fire mapping and environmental studies. As the only European provider that can deliver leading-edge, fully installed, integrated and EASA certified systems demand for Polytech systems is growing. Polytech AB is part of the Cedip Infrared Systems group of companies (www.cedip-infrared.com).
