Celebrating three decades of global exchange in single-molecule spectroscopy and super-resolution microscopy
PicoQuant GmbH reflects on the successful conclusion of its 30th International Workshop on Single Molecule Spectroscopy and Super-resolution Microscopy, held from September 23 to 26, 2025, in Berlin. With a record-breaking attendance of more than 250 participants, the event brought together leading researchers from across the globe to share insights, explore emerging trends, and strengthen collaborative ties in the single-molecule research community.
Global Leaders and Nobel Laureates Take the Stage
This year’s anniversary edition featured an exceptional line-up of speakers, including two Nobel Laureates – Stefan W. Hell (Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences) and W.E. Moerner (Stanford University). Alongside them, renowned scientists presented innovative developments in techniques such as FLIM, smFRET, FCS/FLCS, and Single-Molecule Localization Microscopy (PALM, STORM), as well as advances in machine learning and open-source analysis tools.
A Platform for Inspiration and Exchange
The four-day program offered a dynamic mix of keynote lectures, invited talks, contributed presentations, and poster sessions, creating many opportunities for scientific dialogue. Social highlights – including a welcome reception and a festive anniversary dinner – provided the perfect setting for networking and collaboration.
Spotlight on Emerging Talent
Continuing a long-standing tradition, the workshop honored young researchers through the Best Student Talk Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field. The award went to Marie Reischke, Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Rick Seifert, The Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg, and Philipp Gebauer, University of Konstanz. Rainer Erdmann, CEO of PicoQuant, commented: “The 30th workshop was an inspiring platform – shaped by exceptional expertise, lively exchange, and young talent. We thank all participants; together we are writing the next chapters in single-molecule research.”
Three Decades of Impact
Since its inception in 1995, the workshop has grown into the world´s premier interdisciplinary venue for researchers from physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science. As PicoQuant celebrates three decades of fostering advances in ultrasensitive optics and super-resolution microscopy, it looks ahead to continuing its mission of promoting innovation, interdisciplinary exchange, and scientific excellence.
