Designed for performance in extreme conditions, these low-SWaP lasers are temperature-resilient and optimized for vacuum environments, with options for radiation-hardening and application-specific customization, supporting mission-critical applications such as free-space optical communication (FSOC), LIDAR, atmospheric sensing, telemetry, 3D mapping, and planetary exploration.
RPMC’s space portfolio includes a range of customizable laser diodes, modules, and pulsed laser sources tailored to specific wavelengths, power outputs, pulse durations, and hermetically sealed packaging. Key offerings encompass the C-Band Dual Amplifier Module (1535–1565 nm) for secure FSOC in low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations; Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) at 1550 nm for high-speed communication; the Microchip DPSS Laser at 1064 nm, proven in NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission for asteroid mapping; DFB Laser Diodes at 1550 nm or 1310 nm for CubeSat atmospheric sensing; and the Triple-Junction Laser Diode at 1550 nm for “eye-safe” navigation LIDAR, delivering up to 75W peak power.
These solutions have demonstrated trusted performance in real-world missions, including the previously referenced OSIRIS-REx asteroid mapping effort, where a Microchip DPSS Laser enabled over 1 billion shots for high-resolution 3D mapping and navigation. In LEO constellations, the C-Band modules and SOAs have facilitated enhanced connectivity, while CubeSat applications benefit from compact designs that minimize risk and ensure seamless integration.
