Professor Nikolay Zheludev honored with prestigious EPS-QEOD Prize

Southampton, UK -- Professor Nikolay Zheludev of the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) has been awarded the 2025 Quantum Electronics and Optics Prize for Applied Aspects by the Quantum Electronics and Optics Division of the European Physical Society (EPS-QEOD).
 
This distinguished award recognises outstanding contributions to the field of quantum electronics and optics, with Professor Zheludev being honoured for his pioneering discoveries and leadership in metamaterials, nanophotonics, optical super-oscillations, toroidal electrodynamics, and a wide array of applications across optical science.

As a world-renowned physicist and Deputy Director of the ORC, Professor Zheludev has played a transformative role in the advancement of photonics. His research has significantly influenced the development of technologies that manipulate light at the nanoscale, enabling breakthroughs in imaging, sensing, and optical communication.

The EPS-QEOD Prize will be formally presented to Professor Zheludev at a ceremony during the CLEO®/Europe–EQEC conference in Munich on Tuesday, 24 June 2025. As part of the recognition, he will deliver a prize lecture at the event. This award is regarded as one of the highest accolades in the field of quantum optics.

This honour not only highlights Professor Zheludev’s outstanding scientific achievements but also underscores the vital role of the University of Southampton and the ORC in shaping the future of optical science and technology.
