Date Announced: 27 Mar 2025
Advanced Fiber Resources (AFR) is set to demonstrate its 400 Gbps/lane thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) modulator chip at OFC, which will be held at Moscone Center, San Francisco, California, April 1 – 3, 2025. Engineered for PAM-4 transmission systems, the chip is capable of transmission up to 1.6 Tbps with DR4/FR4, or 3.2 Tbps with DR8/FR8. Compared to other optoelectronic materials such as indium phosphide, silicon photonics, and traditional lithium niobate, the TFLN modulator features high bandwidth, low Vπ, low insertion loss, high extinction ratio, excellent linearity, and compact size, potentially capable of being implemented into pluggable transceivers or CPOs for data centers and AI clusters.
