Lumencor, Inc. named Makers & Manufacturers Honoree in Portland Business Journal Product Innovation Awards, 2020

Date Announced: 23 Sep 2020

Beaverton, Oregon, September 17, 2020- Lumencor, Inc. has been named 2020 Product Innovation of the Year honoree from the Portland Business Journal for our next generation SOLA light engine®.  Each year, the PBJ honors the region’s top manufacturing companies who drive the economy with innovation, excellence and productivity. The new generation SOLA features increased power, longevity, stability and robustness over the projected 15 year life time with no replacement parts. Lumencor’s SOLA light engine is used in fluorescence microscopy for life science and materials science applications.

“We are honored to be recognized by the PBJ and to be included with a group of such capable manufacturers” states Claudia Jaffe, EVP and Co-Founder of Lumencor, Inc.  “We are entrenched in this battle (COVID vaccine discovery) and we are very proud that numerous companies that are developing vaccines or viral screening tests build equipment based on Lumencor lighting. The lighting inside is fundamental in determining the performance of those instruments.”

Lumencor’s light engines, solid-state optical excitation subsystems, are designed and manufactured for a broad array of life science equipment including fluorescence microscopes, cellular analysis and high content screening tools, endoscopes, robotic surgical tools, among others. State-of-the-art lighting products provide more power than an arc lamp with the durability, stability and switching speed of a solid-state light source. Lumencor’s brand is now synonymous with best-in-class performance such that industry leaders across the scope of biotech and semiconductor applications come to us to assist in the design of next-generation tools.

The SOLA light engine® is readily used as a direct swap, plug-in replacement for any of the archaic mercury-containing lamps historically used in biotech and industrial test and measurement equipment. By any measure: performance, cost, environmental-friendliness, there’s really no excuse for any lab to employ mercury lamps in the 21st century.
