Mobius Photonics Announces Licensing Agreement With Tratech Fiberoptics for "Meight" Optical Fiber Connector

Date Announced: 25 Oct 2010

Fiber laser maker agrees deal to produce detachable connectors used for delivery of precision power for industrial applications.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - October 25, 2010) - Mobius Photonics, an innovative producer of short pulsed fiber laser sources (IR, green, and UV laser), and Tratech Fiberoptics, Inc., a manufacturer of high-power fiber optic cables, have entered into an exclusive licensing agreement that designates Tratech Fiberoptics as the worldwide manufacturer and distributor of "Meight" optical fiber connectors and associated components.

"We're pleased to announce our licensing agreement with Tratech Fiberoptics," said Red Byer, Mobius vice president of operations. "Tratech has an established history with Mobius as a fiber assembly supplier and was a contributor in Meight connector development. They continually demonstrate to us a high level of product quality and reliability, which will be important for helping establish the Meight design as a new standard in optical fiber connectors."

Mobius' "Meight" connector is a detachable optical fiber connector intended for precision power applications such as pump light delivery and fiber coupling in commercial and industrial lasers. Meight connectors accommodate up to a few hundred watts of power via multimode fibers with core diameters from 50 microns to 1 mm.

Meight connectors are keyed for consistent, repeatable coupling. A large-thread hex nut guides and fastens the connector in place to ensure a secure, reliable mechanical connection. Meight connectors can be used to fiber couple through a sealed bulkhead and are capable of being de-coupled without breaking the bulkhead seal. Bulkhead interfaces are available to connect Meight to Meight, Meight to SMA, as well as launch between Meight and free space.
