Laser Components Expands Through Acquisition - Pyroelectric Detectors Now Manufactured In House

Date Announced: 27 Jun 2014

The Laser Components Group expands its Infrared Detector activities and acquires the majority ownership of U.S.-based manufacturer Microwatt Applications, LLC.

“This acquisition perfectly complements our worldwide offering of IR detectors and reconfirms our goal to significantly expand our market share in this segment.” said Patrick Paul, general manager at Laser Components GmbH. “Microwatt and its personnel will add excellent know-how and decades of experience in the production of Pyroelectric Detectors. With Alan Doctor, one of the most experienced and renowned experts in the field of Pyroelectric Detectors joining our ranks. Both companies perfectly complement each other.“

As of July 2014, Microwatt will operate under the name Laser Components Pyro Group, Inc. and as a subsidiary of Laser Components Detector Group, Inc. who already manufacture a successful line of different IR semiconductor detectors. Microwatt‘s location in Florida will remain and be gradually expanded.

“We have found the ideal partner in Laser Components. Someone who is not only providing the funds necessary to expand our production capacities but also possesses a global sales network.“ said Alan Doctor, managing director and majority owner of Microwatt Applications, LCC.

Microwatt manufactures Pyroelectric Detectors based on LiTaO3 for industrial gas analysis, medical technology, flame recognition, and process control and Pyroelectric Detectors based on DLaTGS as the sensing material used in premium applications such as FTIR spectrometers and THz which are gaining in importance in the market place.

The Laser Components Group specialises in the development, production, and sales of components and services for the laser and optoelectronics industry. In addition to manufacturing sites in Germany, Canada, and the U.S. there are worldwide sales offices and distribution partners. 170 employees generate an annual turnover of USD 55 million.
