INO Introduces a New Yb Fiber for Pulsed Laser Applications Requiring Superior Beam Quality

Date Announced: 23 Nov 2012

INO introduces its new 35/250 mm Yb-doped double-clad optical fiber (DCOF) designed for pulsed lasers with M2 lower than 1.15, making it the perfect choice for applications requiring superior beam quality.

Innovation

This fiber features our novel confined-core fiber design, which ensures selective gain amplification of the fundamental mode and low sensitivity to the fiber coiling diameter. The 35 m core provides a very high non-linear threshold, while the 250 m octagonal cladding offers good pump absorption.

The development of this DCOF fiber has been conducted to answer laser integrators’ requests for bending-insensitive fibers with high beam quality for fast rise-time and narrow linewidth seed laser pulse amplifiers.

The P/Al/Si host glass matrix used for this fiber is optimized to offer low-photodarkening sensitivity and optimal mode profile. Using this chemical composition thus results in high power stability, increased fiber lifetime, excellent control of the fiber index profile and high laser efficiency.

Typical applications for this new Yb-doped fiber includes fiber amplifiers for materials processing, range finding, free space communications, and biophotonics.
