Laser materials testing
Located next door to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, UES operates the Laser Hardened Materials Evaluation Laboratory (LHMEL). It features a 100kW carbon dioxide laser source for materials testing under extreme conditions. UES has just won a contract worth up to $49 million to develop materials capable of protecting air crews from both blinding laser flashes and directed energy weapons. Image: UES.
