
| Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a progressive disease that kills retinal photoreceptors at the back of the eye. Laser-activated photodynamic therapy can be used to treat the “wet” form of the disease, by stopping the growth of abnormal leaky blood vessels in the eye - although it does not work in all cases.
