| With the 'ash dome' now in place on top of the 1.2 meter diameter auxiliary telescope, the LSST is now starting to resemble a working observatory. The project's giant 3.2 gigapixel camera sensor assembly is also progressing, and the first images from the site should be captured in 2020. The huge survey of the southern night sky, which will record billions of cosmic objects in the form of a 'motion picture', is set to begin in late 2022. Photo: LSST Corporation. |
