| The options for rapid detection of sepsis are varied, with two potential photonics-based solutions appearing at the Laser 2015 show. Far left is Qiagen's relatively simple but portable and fast biomarker detector, which uses colorimetric or fluorescence techniques, next to the much larger and more complex Raman system called "RapID". Developed at the Leibniz Institute for Photonic Technology, it can identify the specific type of bacteria that is causing a patient's sepsis. |
