| Fiber lasers are both replacing more traditional forms of laser in materials processing applications - for example in scanner welding - and expanding the overall market. According to Oclaro's own estimates, fiber lasers now command a market of some $1.5 billion. That market remains dominated by IPG Photonics right now, and Oclaro will need other suppliers to make inroads to generate the necessary volumes for economic production of its high-power fiber laser pumps.
