| Aydogan Ozcan's biophotonics group at UCLA are working on a number of novel approaches to optical microscopy that promise to aid disease diagnosis in the developing a world, at a fraction of the cost of traditional microscopy. Ozcan has also started up an early-stage spin-out company called Microskia, to help commercialize some of the ideas developed. Many of those ideas are innovation so compact that they are compatible with a cell-phone, potentially combining diagnostics and communication in a single, simple, hand-held device. Credit: UCLA. |
