Times Square Ball
LEDs have been used for many years to illuminate the famous Times Square Ball that traditionally brings in the new year in New York. In December 2010, the Ball was lit by a staggering 32,256 Philips Luxeon LEDs. Illustrating recent improvements to LED technology, the latest version required only 22 W to produce the same amount of light output that demanded 180 W of incandescent light bulbs in previous years.
