Both JDSU and Opnext are best-known for their activity in the optical communications sector. But both companies are increasingly active in other photonics applications - for example Opnext recently released a blue (445nm) laser diode for use in mobile projectors such as the one shown here. Meanwhile JDSU has benefited from the 8 million Kinect games consoles already sold by Microsoft, for which it supplies both near-infrared lasers and detector components.
