Wavelength conversion
Photonics-based quantum computing systems rely on several different trapped ion and atomic components with energy transitions typically corresponding to visible wavelengths that cannot be used in conventional fiber-optic links. By converting those visible-range photons to telecom wavelengths, as IonQ now claims to have done, it becomes possible to link quantum computing systems over long distances. Photo: IonQ.
