| The Coherent team sees a significant market opportunity emerging in optical circuit switches for data centers. While the company has previously sold components including pluggable transceivers for switch applications, it has just sold its first entire switch system. Based on liquid-crystal rather than MEMS technology, it is claimed to be inherently more reliable than rival systems, and could open up a new revenue stream for the firm's data center and communications division.
