| IQE is a key manufacturer of VCSEL epiwafers - the base semiconductor structure that makes up the multi-layered photonic devices before the wafers are diced and packaged into individual lasers. The company is busy scaling up production of VCSEL wafers at its new "mega foundry" near its Cardiff headquarters, for a growing range of 3D sensing applications in smart phone handsets.
