| II-VI recently upgraded its wafer facilities for high-power laser diode production, with the edge emitters now being fabricated on 6-inch GaAs epiwafers. The company already produces VCSELs in the large-scale format, and the economies of scale associated with the switch are helping the company both achieve better profit margins and become more competitive than rivals using a smaller format.
