Job Description

Summary of Role:

GLOBALFOUNDRIES is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer to be a part of a World Leading Compact Model Development team engaged in Design Enablement in GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ state of the art photonics technologies. As a Device Modelling Engineer, you will be responsible for the development of state-of-the-art Optical & Electro-Optical device compact models in Silicon Photonics (SiPh) technologies for advanced applications.  The successful applicant will be a member of an established world-class compact model development team, driven by collaborative innovation, analytical thinking, and creative problem solving.


Essential Responsibilities:           

  • Development of compact device models for Optical & Electro-Optical Photonic devices
  • Design and layout of device test structure, definition of optical and electro-optical tests, and data acquisition
  • Extraction of model parameters from characterization data
  • Creation of and responsibility for model documentation
  • Responsible for continuous improvement of model functionality and modelling methodology
  • Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • Strong mathematical skills & knowledge of semiconductor device physics
  • Minimum 1 year of photonics or optics experience
  • Understanding of photonic technology device engineering and processing
  • Background in device characterization techniques and parameter extraction from DC, S-Parameter, and Optical measurements
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills both written & verbal
  • Proficient in English (written & verbal)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD Degree in Physics or Electrical Engineering
  • 3 years of photonics or optics experience
  • Familiarity with automation software such as Matlab, R, or Python
  • Theoretical knowledge and experience using Electro-Magnetic simulation tools
  • Experience in programming with hardware description languages (HDL)
  • Device or circuit simulation experience using Cadence
  • Experience with Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and integrated circuit simulators
  • Knowledge or direct design experience in electro-optical circuit applications such as modulators, Lidar, or multiplexing circuits
