The Diamond Turning (DT) Operator will interface with the optical fabrication engineering team to report issues and help drive the appropriate corrective and preventive actions as required. Another part of this role includes participating in new product design, program kickoffs, and contract and specification reviews of complex Diamond Turned optical components and assemblies to determine detailed manufacturing/quality plan requirements.   • Perform the setup and operation of CNC diamond turning machines:
    • Precitech Nanoform 700 3-Axis
    • Precitech Planoform 550 fly – cutter
    • Moore Nanotech 250 3-axis with slow tool servo
  • Assist in the development of methods and procedures as required
  • Perform visual inspections and interferometric measurements using interferometers, Talysurf, CGH, and precision gages
  • Work closely with optical fabrication engineering team; work under minimal supervision to complete assignments
  • Participate in system calibration and troubleshooting
  • Engage in process improvements activities; driving continuous improvement plays a significant part of this role
Job Requirements

What will you bring to the team, along with your curiosity is:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience operating and setting-up precision Diamond Turning machines – working knowledge of micrometers, interferometers and surface profilers
  • A strong background in precision DT machining of IR materials, aluminum, Electroless Ni plated parts is desirable
  • Manual dexterity required to handle and clean precision diamond turned optical components and assemblies
  • The ability to perform high precision work using machine based profilometry, tool setting microscopes and precision electronic measuring instruments and tools
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints with proficiency in interpretation of geometric tolerances per ASME Y14.5M -1994
  • Availability for 3rd shift (10:00pm – 6:00am); and availability to adjust shift schedules as required
